Guitarist/singer/songwriter
and Tower Records recording artist Alex Wise has developed a variety
of musical projects. Front Porch marks his first solo release
of all original material. With compositions that accommodate instrumentation
as diverse as didgeridoo, mandolin, organ, and blues harp, Alex's acoustic
swamp sound is a gumbo of folk, blues and jazz.
Formerly
a media executive with stints at Warner Bros. and News Corp., Alex moved
to San Francisco from Tokyo in 1998 to work in the internet industry
and play music. Fluent in Japanese and a graduate of the Fletcher School
of Law & Diplomacy at Tufts and Harvard, he later started his own
consulting company that focused on interactive TV in Asia. Disenchanted
with the rat race of the traditional business world, Alex gave it up
to follow his passion for music.
Some
pre-release reaction to Front Porch:
"Alex Wise's Front Porch is the best album I've heard in a long time. I found each
track to be better than the next. It's not easy to categorize his sound - all I know
is that I currently have over 200 CDs piled up on my desk that I'm supposed to
listen to and I haven't taken Front Porch out of my CD player for a week."

"Wises admirable effort features blues-based acoustic folk with swampy overtones.
Many nice touches mark this carefully crafted collection."
- Minor 7th Magazine
"Wise's music taps into something suffused with soul and lyricism."
- Jeremy Hay
Santa Rosa Press-Democrat
"The melange of dobros, bass, drums, didgeridoos, harmonica, and god-knows-what-else
sounds like a slow moving swamp boogie by the Dead circa 1969. The music gestates at
a languid rate, sounding remarkably relaxed (and) spacious...""
